Brunel Class Y4

Welcome to Brunel class!

Our class is a team - we are innovators, educators, leaders and learners of the 21st century!

Our class is named after Isambard Kingdom Brunel. Brunel is remembered his pioneering work in the design and construction of the Thames Tunnel. From a young age, Isambard had a talent for engineering and mathematics. Encouraged by his father, he learnt how to depict model drawings of buildings. He was a STEAM innovator and we continue to learn more about his achievements during year 4.

Hi, I am Mrs Baxter and I will be the class teacher for Bouman Class for the start of the year before I start my maternity leave.Year 4 has got lots of exciting trips, visitors, projects and WOW moments. Youhave such an exciting curriculum to look forward to and lots of shared learning, outside activities, clubs and trips in store!

Over the last few years, I have discovered a love of paddle boarding and bouldering but I’m definitely still in need of some practice! I enjoy being active and creative; I especially love baking sweet treats to share with others! When I’m not in school I spend my time at the beach with my two dogs, Max and Milo. They love catching a frisbee and swimming in the sea!

KEY CLASS INFORMATION

Autumn Term 1

Our new project is focussing on electricity and our enquiry question is 'How does electricity work?'

Here is an overview of our planned learning for this term:

Key Information

English

In English, children will undertake a grammar unit. The children will also create a non-fiction explanation text linked to their learning in Science.

Maths

In Maths, we will focus on number and place value to 10,000.

In our number fact sessions we will focus on our knowledge of the multiplication facts up to 12 X 12.

Our PE days will be on ________ and _________ .We would like children to bring their PE kit in, ready to change at school.

 Reading and Handwriting

We devote time daily to independent reading and handwriting, as these are vitally important skills which help us across all curriculum areas. Children need to read on a daily basis at home and at school in order to make the most progress.

Homework

Each week, there will be spellings to learn using Spelling Shed. Daily reading and regular practise of times tables using Times Table Rockstars is also part of our homework expectation.  Optional homework activities can be found in the grid below.
